About School Daily Program Yearly Calendar

Suginoko Horizons Childcare Center opened its doors in Bellevue,
Washington, near Overlake Hospital, in November of 2006. Our objective
is to provide childcare in the Japanese language to children aged 1 to 5,
and to make them feel at home in a Japanese setting.

We offer an environment where young children can develop physically and mentally while also gaining firm awareness of the needs and feelings of others. Through a curriculum that exactly parallels the one at Suginoko Preschool, children are encouraged to study music, arithmetic, arts & crafts, hiragana (the Japanese syllabary) and introductory science, as well as to play various games and practice rhythmic movements and other physical activities. In addition, children are introduced to various fun-filled events associated with the seasonal holidays of both Japan and the United States. They are also supervised in the basic tasks of daily life, including toilet training and tooth brushing. Aside from clothing, all items required for daily living, including diapers and wipes, are available at the Center.

Meals are provided so that children will get accustomed to eating a nutritionally balanced diet every day. Breakfast and lunch are prepared daily at the Center, with emphasis put on Japanese foods and cooking methods.

Education Policy

As children explore, day by day, the world around them, they develop confidence and acquire new interests. To advance this process, we expose children to materials and activities best suited to their specific age and abilities, so that each child can work at his or her own level.

At Suginoko Horizons, children are encouraged and helped to:
1. Discover pleasure from new and challenging experiences,
2. Become aware of themselves as unique individuals with special qualities and abilities,
3. Grow in self-confidence,
4. Be caring and respectful, nurturing self-esteem in others as well as in themselves, and
5. Be sociable and cooperative.

Suginoko provides instruction exclusively in Japanese. It is our hope that by exposing children to the language and culture of Japan, they will discover the pleasures of reading and writing, hearing and speaking the Japanese language, and feel confident in interacting with Japanese people.
